What is hypoglycemia? Hypoglycemia is a condition in which the blood sugar level is too low. This can happen when blood sugar decreases to abnormally low levels 2-5 hours after eating food. Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) occurs when there’s too much insulin and not enough sugar (glucose) in the blood. Hypoglycemia is described as blood sugar below 70 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), or 3.9 millimoles per liter (mmol/L). 

Many reasons can cause hypoglycemia in people with diabetes. This includes taking too much insulin or other diabetes medications, missing out on a meal, or exercising excessively. If untreated, hypoglycemia can lead to seizures and loss of consciousness. 

Common low blood sugar symptoms (hypoglycemia) are: 
• Dizziness
• Confusion
• Feeling shaky
• Headaches
• Irritability
• Increase in heartbeat
• Pale skin 
• Anxiety
• Weakness

Hypoglycemia may also occur if after taking your diabetes medication, you eat less than you should and exercise more than you usually do.  At the same time, take precautions not to over treat your low blood sugar. If you do, your blood sugar level will rise too high resulting in hyperglycemia.

1. Raisins

2. Honey
Take 1 table spoon of honey with milk whenever you feel your blood sugar levels falling. Being quick sugar foods, this helps you regain the glucose in no time. Treating low blood sugar seems easier with the help of these remedies.

Alternatively you can have foods rich in complex carbohydrates like rice, pasta and bread at regular intervals to increase your blood sugar levels.
