Most times the body’s immunity is successful in fighting the onslaught of these organisms from infecting the lungs but, sometimes, they may succeed even though you may be in good health. At times it may occur as a mild condition and this usually clears up in two to three weeks. In some cases, it can prove fatal. It is quite dangerous for infants and adults over the age of 65 and those with a weak immunity are at a great risk. How to treat pneumonia with the help of home remedies? Pneumonia is caused by an infection of the lungs leading to inflammation. It occurs when the air sacs in the lungs get filled with liquid or pus thereby hampering the process of oxygenation of blood in the lungs.
Depending on the severity pneumonia is divided into 4 categories. They are

Community acquired pneumonia (CAP) which is caused by bacteria, viruses and other organisms, Hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP) which is caused after admission into a hospital. Usually occurs due to infections by bacteria. This is difficult to treat because the hospital acquired bacteria are more resistant to drugs and the patient is already sick due to other causes when affected by HAP.

Aspiration pneumonia is caused due to inhalation of stomach contents after vomiting. It can also be caused due to inhalation of chemicals and other irritants into the lungs. Opportunistic pneumonia usually affects immunocompromised people- those with HIV/AIDs or those who are suffering from cancer and undergoing radiation or chemotherapy or ones who have got an organ transplant.
